Republicans are nothing if not conservative. And what could be more conservative than moving forward by going back in time?
By electing John Boehner (R-West Chester) to replace Tom DeLay (R-Alcatraz), the Republicans have installed their own flux capacitor as Majority Leader. Boehner was one of Newt Gingrich's (R-Mars) top lieutenants during the glory days of the Contract on America. In fact, Boehner helped write it.
If Republicans want to clean up the insider trading that is politics these days, it should be useful to have a man of Boehner's experience leading them. After all, Boehner is infamous for handing out checks on the floor of the House -- checks from Big Tobacco -- during debate on legislation to eliminate tobacco subsidies.
Yeah, this future looks familiar because we've lived through it before.
