What's the big deal about Rufus Wainwright? Why does he get so much positive media coverage?
I admit that the first time you hear one of his songs, you might like it. But, as the saying goes: you hear one, you've heard 'em all. And they are all soooo depressing. What's he got to be depressed about? His parents were well-known folk singers (OK, maybe that IS depressing) and family friends included Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris.
I suppose he does kind of have that Elvis look. Yet what little I've seen of his live performances suggests that you should not go if you have recently contemplated suicide. Every other song is a dirge. If I want to be depressed, I'll read the news.
